Cold PU-adhesive is often applied by hand or sprayed.
Are applied in cold condition by Axel Wirth by machine in grams/dosed by the driven roller.
Reaction with water, wood or air moisture.
The pressed material is
temperatureproof
waterproof
In all probability, the glued material would be destroyed before the reacted glue.
Potlife
Potlife is in common the reaction time of the glue in the open pot. – “As long as you can leave the pot open”.
Just like every glue, also the cold PU-adhesive has a special pressing time, depending on the potlife.
Glue reaction is only desired after closing the press.
Pay attention: I must first fill the press, before I can close it!!! During this time, the adhesive must not yet react. The time of potlife determines the longer pressing time.
This time can be extended or shortened in any way.
The faster I can fill the press, the faster can be my potlife, the shorter is my pressing time.
Cold PU-adhesives can be applied by the Axel Wirth System. Due to the quick roller application, the press is full very quickly. This is valid for all kind of adhesives and glues.
Since cold PU-adhesive reacts with water, cleaning is not done with water.
Rollers and special steel parts can be dismounted from the machine with a few grips
and are cleaned in a respective solvent with a paint brush.
Therefore, Wirth rollers are supplied resistant to solvent.

Thermoplastic adhesives
Delivered hot from a pre-heating container into the roller applicator.
Glue rollers are heated.
Thermoplastic adhesives are applied in hot condition.
Reaction during cooling-off.
Depending on the type of adhesive, it can be dissolved again by temperature.
In that case, this is a disadvantage for the material constancy.
Thermoplastic adhesives, which stay constantly hard after application, need very expensive technics with very short reaction time. In case of several plies of material and glue layers, handling becomes very difficult. If shaped pieces come out of the press, they can contract again.
At present, cold PU-adhesive is the perfect solution in craft and middle class whenever conventional wood glues are not to be used.
